Polymyositis case history presentation by Dr. Markus Sorin of Romania
Popa Simina, 55 years old
Symptoms at the onset: massive edema of the lower extremities, dyspnea,
Physical examination: anemia, polyserositis, discrete motor esophageal syndrome, typical scleroderma facies and infiltration of the skin.
For 6 months, she was on doxycycline, with no response of any of her symptoms, and with increasing of the amount of ascites, edema and pericardic liquid, increasing of intensity of dyspnea.
After that she started a series of IV infusions with lincocin for 2 weeks, followed by oral intermittent therapy with Minocin produced by Lederle. Slowly, the polyserositis disappeared, the dyspnea and edema too, and the infiltration of the skin is much more discrete now. She became again an active person and she can now perform the house work. She continues therapy with Minocin, together with acidophilus, B complex vitamin and C vitamin.
